Creative Skills | 12 - 18years

Creative Skills is aimed at young people  12 - 16 years of age and is focused on creative development in young people's areas of interest.  Activity is guided by feedback from our taster sessions and Young Creatives Art Ambassadors’ input. It is currently a programme of regular groups and one off events including dance, writing, mixed media art, illustrating and puppet making, but will expand to covers areas of interest as requested.

Note that all regular activities and one off events have limited spaces and most require advance booking through our What's On page. Events and subsided prices, thanks to our funding from the Holywood Trust, and YMI Access Creative Scotland.

Young Writers Cafe


The relaxed Young Writers Cafe sessions is a youth facilitated session that runshe last Wednesday of each month beginning in March (29th). These will give you the space to work on your own piece in a supportive environment, chat with other young writers, or share works in progress. Taking place 6-7:30pm. 

Relaxed Monthly sessions for under 25s.
Drinks available to purchase in the cafe.

Creative Portfolio Development

At each artist-led session you will learn a new creative skill. This might include things like experimental printmaking, alternative photography, found object sculpture or digital foraging. 

These workshops are ideal if you are considering art college and want to develop work for your portfolio but are equally suitable if you just enjoy making stuff in a relaxed environment with likeminded folk. .

MusicTech | 12years plus

Discover the art of music production and recording and take a step towards creating your own digital music. Our workshops are perfect for young music enthusiasts who want to explore the world of music and sound. Participants will be guided through the process of using music to create a variety sounds and short pieces of music which will be used during the Soundtrap workshops.

Dance Steps

Dance Steps is a monthly run workshops. each month, participants will be introduced to a variety of dance forms lead by experienced dancers and dance tutors.

 

Dance styles will include musical theatre, jazz and tap, theatrical jazz, ballet, hip hop, modern and contemporary.

Participants are encouraged to attend every monthly session to benefit from this opportunity.

Do you want your child to learn how to play piano on a grand piano? Our private piano lessons are available for children over 12 years old who haven’t currently got access to music lessons. Our experience and friendly musician tutor will tailor each lesson to your Childs needs and abilities, ensuring that they get the most out of their musical journey. Calling all aspiring young singers and musical enthusiasts! Join our bi weekly singing class for ages 10 – 18. With a seasoned and passionate music teach Kate Picken, you’ll get to learn show-stopping songs from your favourite musicals, hone your vocal technique, and conquer harmonies. Top It off with an incredible showcase on the 4th November to flaunt your new found skill.

Give your child the gift of music with our group guitar lessons! Our experience teacher create a fun supportive environment for children and young people to learn the basics of playing the guitar. Young people will learn the fundamentals of guitar playing, including chords, scales and strumming techniques. We know that theatre is a place to develop young artists and young citizens and we promote youth creative art opportunities that focus on the artistic, personal and social development of young people. It is part of Young Creatives commitment to developing young people’s awareness and appreciation of the aesthetic of theatre and performance events.

Art Ambassadors

Young Creatives Ambassadors is a dynamic group of volunteers ages 11 - 21 years old. They work together to represent the voices of young people in the Glenkens area and get involved in shaping the young creatives programme and planning and delivering youth led workshops, events  and activities.

Art Ambassadord meet in the CatStrand cafe bi -weekly on Mondays 4.30 -5.30. Everyone welcome

Behind the Scenes | Theatre Crew

Love the theatre but don't want to be performing on stage?
'Behind the Scenes' Theatre Crew have the opportunity to gain experience 'backstage, making props, set design, learn about sound and lighting, front of house. We will also be arranging a trip to the theatre for a behind the scenes experience day!
No experience necessary just willingness to get involved! The crew will meet on a regular basis in the run up to the pantomine.

Saturday Art Club

Saturday Art Club will introduce members to a range of different and exciting art and design activities/skills such as drawing, mark-making, printmaking, painting, photography, 3D/sculpture, illustration, textiles, and more! The Club will build your confidence and develop your own personal areas of interest within art and design. These activities will be run by a  professional practising artist ​with ​occasional guest artists.

CatStrand Youth Players

If you are interested in acting, directing, costumes, sound, lighting, stage management, or any other aspect of drama or theatre, then come along and have some fun​. The group produce and perform several plays per year.
