Spotlight on our new Intern | Phoebe Watt
We are really excited to welcome our latest new intern Phoebe Watt to the CatStrand Arts Team. Phoebe's background is film having done a degree in Film and Media, before studying a Masters in Film Curation. She volunteered with the youth-led Climate Crisis Film Festival, where she supported the team to deliver the festival’s 2021 program. During her Film Curation degree, she was also able to work with the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival. Both festivals aim to challenge audiences’ perspectives on complex issues such as climate change and mental health, particularly by illuminating the diverse range of underrepresented voices of those who are impacted. These experiences have increased her interest in improving inclusivity, diversity, and accessibility within the arts. Becoming involved with the arts industry during the global pandemic has also shown her how versatile and resilient the industry can be, and how vital the arts are in bringing communities together. Phoebe says; "I’m so excited to be joining the team and really looking forward to getting involved in the local arts community and to use my time here to increase younger audiences’ engagement with cinema and the arts through diverse programming that reflects the concerns and interests of my generation." Phoebe will be working us with us for the next 6 months to research, programme, promote and stage a new arts strand aimed at young adults in Dumfries & Galloway, to be included in the main CatStrand Arts Programme and the CatStrand Young Creatives programme. The intern will be supported in their duties by Peter Renwick, Arts, Cultural and Heritage Manager and Catherine Campbell, Youth Arts Coordinator. Peter Renwick says; “We are delighted to have Phoebe on board and look forward to working with her on a programming for young adults. She is already working on the next Reel Roots Film series. We are grateful for the support from The Galloway Glen’s Landscape Partnership and The Holywood Trust which made this possible.”
