Summer Success - Workshops and Activities!

What a summer we had at the CatStrand! As school commences for our young people we wanted to reflect on the fun workshops and activities that we held over the summer holidays.

ECO ART DAY

We started the fun with an 'Eco Art Day' with Cat & Sarah out at Cairsphairn Woods. It was a lovely day to go walking throught the woods, learning about different ways that we can create objects for art using things that already exist out in nature. The kids foraged for raw materials to make their own natural paintbrushes and explored mark making.

MUSIC, RHYTHM, DANCE AND MOVEMENT

We had an energetic bunch come along to our Music, Rhythm, Dance, and Movement workshop with Erin & Ruby. The kids learned all about the importance of rhythm and movement through fun and engaging activities as they prepared to learn an entire dance in 1 session, and they even got a chance to choreograph their own sections of the dance! They performed their fresh number to an audience who were very impressed with everyone's energy and effort!

DRAMA, PUPPETS, AND STORYTELLING

We dove into a world of magic and storytelling with Anne & Erin. The kids got to create their very own shadow puppets. They drew, cut, and taped their creations together to create a cast of magical characters. They then got their time to shine by putting on short plays for an audience behind the big white screen. They also got explore sound scaping and effects with lots of different percussive instruments, and they got to take their new puppets home!

CREATIVE QUILLING

We had 2 lovely quilling workshops run by Sue Lindsay. The kids learned all about the art of rolling, shaping, and gluing paper to create lovely images and objects. The young people had a lovely time getting creative, learning new skills and producing some really lovely artwork. It was great to see everyone so engaged and enjoying the session.
